Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept. University City Division Station
Miles-McClellan Builds a Sustainable Station for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
The Plan
Miles-McClellan is honored to have worked with the City of Charlotte to build a new and sustainable facility for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) University City Division Station. This facility utilizes a combination of reinforced concrete walls with insulating concrete forms, structural steel, concrete masonry units (CMU), steel joists, and metal deck roof framing. The site work included installing masonry site walls, retaining walls, and an underground detention system for stormwater management. Additional sustainable features include a geothermal heating and cooling system and photovoltaic panels for renewable energy production. A dumpster enclosure is also incorporated into the site design to maintain aesthetic and functional integrity. These elements work together to ensure both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility in the facility’s design and construction.
During this project, Miles-McClellan was not only an absolute pleasure to work with but their team was relentless in their pursuit of bringing the project’s vision to life. Ryan, Steve, Sinh, and the rest of their team were constantly available and collaborative. Problems wereJoe Bumgardner, Engineer of Record, ATOM Engineering
solved swiftly and easily. Nights, weekends, it didn’t matter. Whatever the project needed, they made it happen. I would work with Miles-McClellan again in a heartbeat.
