The Plan

As the 2024–2025 school year wrapped up in June, our team immediately got to work on critical upgrades to Walnut Ridge High School’s and Yorktown Middle School’s gymnasiums and auditoriums — all of which needed to be completed before students returned in August 2025. These renovations were essential to maintaining safety standards and ensuring that every student participating in theater, athletics and school events had the best possible experience. Because the work spanned two separate buildings, Miles-McClellan assigned a dedicated superintendent to each location in order to streamline coordination and avoid overloading a single team.

While mobilizing, the team discovered an issue with lighting fixtures. Working collaboratively, Miles-McClellan, the electrical contractor and the A/E team redesigned the lighting system to fit the actual conditions. Although this caused an unavoidable delay due to long lead times on replacement fixtures, MM pushed hard to accelerate installation once materials arrived and minimize the impact on the overall schedule.
