Collaborative Preconstruction and Construction Management Deliver Award-Winning Lifeline of Ohio Renovation and Memorial
The Plan
Lifeline of Ohio partnered with Rogers Krajnak Architects and Miles-McClellan (serving as Construction Manager at Risk) across two major project phases from 2008 to 2017. The initial 15,673-square-foot renovation took place in a fully occupied space shared with the Wexner Medical Center. Our team successfully navigated complex challenges including infectious control, dust mitigation, and noise reduction by overlapping contractor schedules and completing the loudest work at night.
Based on this highly successful first phase, Rogers Krajnak recommended Miles-McClellan return during the pre-construction process for a second major addition and renovation. This “Excellence in Construction” award-winning phase included a one-story conference center, complete window system replacements, and the team’s proudest accomplishment: the Donor Memorial Plaza. The plaza was beautifully designed with two central fountains surrounded by radiating granite rings—simulating a ripple effect to honor the far-reaching impact of organ donors. This ripple motif extends into the facility’s interior through custom LED fixtures, patterned carpets, and a sweeping curved curtain wall. By bringing the original team back together, Miles-McClellan fostered an efficient, collaborative environment that ultimately provided Lifeline of Ohio with crucial construction cost savings.
