From Historic Preservation to Modern Recreation: Delivering a Revitalized Recreation Destination
The Plan
Miles-McClellan served as Construction Manager at Risk for a multi-stage initiative with the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Spanning 10.5 acres across six distinct sites, our team delivered precision craftsmanship on 19 separate structures, encompassing complex renovations of historic facilities and the ground-up development of modern recreational spaces.
In collaboration with trusted subcontractor Gibson Custom Construction, we expertly restored critical park infrastructure, including two bathhouses, five family cabins, the historic summit building, and an outdoor pool. Our scope also included the delivery of essential new builds—such as a modern bathhouse, eight camper cabins, a communal splash pad, and an accessible walking path to the summit—enhancing visitor experience and site functionality.
Successfully managing a multi-faceted project within an expansive nature preserve, Miles-McClellan navigated the complexities of unforeseen existing conditions with technical agility. By proactively addressing structural challenges and ensuring comprehensive code compliance, we delivered a revitalized, safe, and accessible destination for the public to enjoy.
