Miles-McClellan Lays the Concrete Foundation for Muskingum’s County Jail
The Plan
Rising from the site of a former factory, the new, state-of-the-art Muskingum County Jail will serve as a key pillar in the County’s future, reflecting its ongoing commitment to justice, safety and community service. The new Muskingum County Jail officially broke ground in early May 2025, kicking off an 18-month-long project. The transformation from the facility ruins to a modern correctional center involved extensive preparation, including the removal of 26 structures and large concrete slabs. This project demands careful planning, adaptability and strong collaboration across all trades, especially when wet conditions make progress more difficult. Once completed in the summer of 2026 and opened in the fall of 2027, the new jail will more than double its current capacity, growing from 175 to 357 beds. It will feature 58 two-bunk cells, two dedicated medical housing units and enhanced infrastructure designed to support the health, safety and dignity of both inmates and staff. Projects like these, which allow us to use our craftsmanship and skills to support the community, fuel our drive and passion for the work.
