The Plan

The Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute (now known as Ortho One) Medical Office Building project was a prime example of how experience and dedication to the relentless pursuit of client satisfaction sets Miles-McClellan apart. Within one year’s time, Miles-McClellan constructed a 3-story medical facility in conjunction with developer HealthPlex, Andrews Architects and the doctors of the Cardinal Orthopaedic Institute. While successful, the project was not without its challenges. Pouring concrete floors during colder months required enclosing and heating areas to ensure concrete integrity, and special considerations were made to accommodate medical equipment and ongoing daily operations on campus. For example, installing an MRI machine too large to be brought through standard doors meant the building could not be enclosed until it was delivered, and conventional metal materials could not be used in the same room as the MRI machine to prevent any negative effects on the magnet. To handle these and other setbacks, Miles-McClellan brought in 2 additional superintendents to supervise contractors working on site 24 hours a day to maintain quality standards and meet the desired finish date. In the end, the building was turned over to the owner a mere 5 days past the due date, when the project had once been 2 months behind.
