The Approach

As one of very few omakase dining experiences in Charlotte, Yugenn sought to create a one-of-a-kind luxury dining experience. To do this, they needed a construction partner capable of laying the foundation for their vision.

Miles-McClellan earned the project through a competitive bid process, chosen for our commitment to precision, craftsmanship and reliability.

Serving as the lead general contractor alongside AB Group Architects, we managed every phase of the $1.6 million renovation, coordinating teams, timelines and technical details to bring Yugenn’s elevated concept to life.

The Process

The ground-floor space began as a true blank slate, an empty shell that demanded significant work but offered endless possibility. To bring the owners’ creative vision to life, the project required a complete renovation, starting with under-slab infrastructure and ending with the final finishing details that define a luxury experience.

The 8-story apartment complex, whose ground floor would soon become Yugenn, was still under construction when our work began. Managing the Yugenn project’s progress while the apartment building was also under construction took high-level skills and communication to ensure the results remained aligned with our client’s expectations.

We mobilized a full spectrum of skilled trade teams, layering in concrete, structural metals, drywall, paint, tile, wallpaper, epoxy flooring and more. Every step required craftsmanship, coordination and a deep understanding of the high-end aesthetic the owners envisioned.

A crucial part of building a restaurant is coordinating the plumbing and kitchen equipment layout. Yugenn’s kitchen equipment required thorough advanced planning to ensure everything was in the right place. All of the plumbing rough-ins and under-slab needed were completed very early in the process, before any equipment could be brought on site.

With bold ideas and refined taste, the owners continued to evolve their vision throughout construction. As ideas and plans shifted, so did the direction of the build—making our project management relationships absolutely critical.

Proper planning and installation of high-end finishes was important, including custom millwork with vertical wall paneling throughout the facility. The centerpiece of the restaurant’s aesthetic is an entirely custom ceiling feature running from the main door to the bar.

Clear communication, flexibility and thoughtful problem-solving allowed us to keep the project on track without compromising quality. We acted as the central liaison among numerous vendors, partners and subcontractors, ensuring alignment and maintaining momentum even as decisions changed.

In mid-October 2025, Yugenn officially opened its doors to Charlotte, offering full-service sushi, craft cocktails and a live DJ in a meticulously crafted atmosphere shaped by our team’s dedication and expertise.
