Owen J. Wyss, CPA

CFO

Owen comes to our team bringing a lot of previous experience, working as CFO for both Thompson Concrete and Complete General. Owen is instrumental to bringing our 2030 vision into reality.

Why this business?
I’d call it a very happy accident. At the time, I was working as a Controller in an industrial tools manufacturing company. I was looking to take my career to the next level – to function at the strategic level of a business. A trusted friend and recruiter called with an opportunity at a first-generation commercial and residential concrete contractor located outside Lancaster, OH.

They didn’t have any financial or business expertise on staff and knew they needed to add it to support the business’s continuing growth. I joined them as Controller and was eventually promoted to CFO before leaving. While there, I was responsible for all things finance and accounting, risk management, legal, HR, IT and safety. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow, often stretching my capabilities with areas of the business I did not have any prior experience. While there, I realized construction was the perfect industry for me, marrying my business background and expertise with people much like I had grown up on farms in rural north central Ohio.

What is your most memorable project?
My most memorable project is Gravity I in Franklinton (downtown Columbus, OH). Not only is it a beautiful building, it is also the perfect addition to the Franklinton skyline symbolizing the area’s revitalization.

What is the best part of your job?
Serving others! As administration is not a revenue-generating activity, it is important that we do everything we can to support those conducting the revenue generating activities and provide them with the information and tools they need to be as effective, efficient and profitable as possible. It is very rewarding to know that you helped a teammate improve upon themselves or an activity over which they have influence.

What do you like about Central Ohio?
I love the people of Central Ohio. It’s hard to go somewhere in the area and not find a friendly and welcoming face willing to help. As an avid sports fan, I also love Central Ohioans’ commitments to and passions for their teams.

What is the best compliment anyone could give you?
Ask for my opinion. Because if you ask for my opinion, that means to me that you value what I have to say on the subject.

What is the best advice you ever got?
Don’t present just the problem. Present at least one potential solution too.

What are your hobbies?
Cars… I love cars! I currently own three and am always looking to expand the collection. I also enjoy bourbon, shooting sporting clays, golfing (even though I’m not any good at it) and fishing. And I rarely miss watching Bengals or Michigan football games.
